Piedmont & Piedmont Avenue Neighborhood - Oakland
A fully autonomous town of about 10,000 residents that is surrounded completely by the city of Oakland, Piedmont is famous for its fine traditional architecture, top-notch schools, and high property values. Piedmont’s public schools are among the best in California and are a prime factor the disparity in price found between a home with a Piedmont address and comparable homes in the Oakland Hills. Long-time and new residents alike value Piedmont’s treelined streets and sense of community.

“Piedmont” can also refer to the District of Oakland adjacent to the town of Piedmont. The hub of this district is Piedmont Avenue, a counterpart to Rockridge with a similar, slightly more eclectic feel. Pubs and take-out restaurants such as Cato’s, Kerry House, and Baja Burrito alternate with gourmet establishments like Bay Wolf, Cesar, L’Occoco’s and Dopo. Shopping opportunities are also significant, and the Piedmont Theater features small independent films on three screens. Many theatre-goers visit Fenton's Creamery, a legendary local ice cream parlor. And of course there is the Piedmont Grocery, locally renowned for its fresh produce, cheeses, and meats.
