Temescal Neighborhood - Oakland

Though not officially an Oakland Hills neighborhood (because it lies in the flat section of Oakland), Temescal is a rapidly up-and-coming section of the city. A number of new condominium developments have been built since 2004, and few places in the East Bay have seen as much recent excitement as the area around the intersection of Telegraph Avenue and 51 st Street. Newer restaurants like Pizzaiolo and Dona Tomas complement the neighborhood’s old stand-by, Genova Delicatessen, which is located across the street. Temescal offers easy access to Freeways 24 and 580, Rockridge and MacArthur BART stations, and the attractions of Downtown Oakland, including the Paramount Theatre, the Oakland Museum, and Lake Merritt. Home prices in Temescal are still relatively reasonable in comparison to those higher into the hills, and with many homes still offering great value as an investment.
